Paulo Mendonca is the world-famous funk guitarist who has felt both success and flat fall. Paulo's incredible artist career is a captivating story about how he went from playing in sold-out arenas, touring with greats like Tina Turner and Peter Gabriel, selling hundreds of thousands of albums to suddenly disappearing completely from the music scene. To then get up again - and make a fantastic comeback.
In 1991, the debut album "Respect My Aim" was released on Polar Music. The album is printed in 10,000 copies and sells out in no time. But it is only when the second album "Different Phases" sees the light of day in 1993 that the career really takes off.
The single "If You Want My Love" becomes a hit and places on several European charts. The rumor about the Swedish funk king reaches world star Tina Turner who loves what she hears. She invites Paulo to be a special guest on her upcoming tour. leads to the second.Paulo gets in touch with musicians like Peter Gabriel JEAN MICHEL JARE, CANDY DULFER through his years with SWATCH.
With the third album "11 PM" Paulo achieves enormous success, the album sells 250,000 copies in Japan alone and it feels natural to follow up the success with another album.
But it's getting brighter. A few years later, Paulo moved to London and started a publishing house. He spends his days producing and writing songs for artists such as Craig David, JESSIE J, MILEY CYRUS The publisher quickly becomes a success.
In 2013, Paulo makes a comeback with the album "Does Anybody Wanna Funk?" and he feels he has found his home again. The love of music is back. At first, Paulo is worried that the audience will have forgotten about him, but his concern turns out to be unjustified. The fans are still there and he receives inquiries from both Europe and South America.
That Paulo has fans all over the world is something that even the latest single "Mindcontrol" proves. The song has over 3.4 million streams on Spotify.
Now Paulo Mendonca is up to date with the album MINDCONTROL On the new album, Paulo works with Peter Iwers (who previously played in In Flames). Their collaboration started already in 2017 with the single "U Got 2 Believe". Together, they have now worked out a full-length that Paulo describes as "a rock record that swings”
